    It's here !

Five patients were in isolation in New York on Monday while authorities tested them for novel coronavirus and health officials across the U.S. braced for new cases of the fast-spreading outbreak that started in China.

More than 40 cases have been confirmed in a dozen other countries, including five in the U.S., in the states of California, Illinois, Arizona and Washington. Drug companies are also racing the clock to develop a vaccine.

China’s National Health Commission noted it appears the virus is infectious before symptoms show, an alarming characteristic that could complicate containment efforts.

The mayor of a Chinese city ravaged by a new deadly virus has admitted that his government withheld information about an outbreak from the public.

Zhou Xianwang, the mayor of Wuhan, confessed that his team had not released information about the situation 'in time'. He also said that the city was seeing human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus 'on a large scale'.

The revelations came after Mr Zhou yesterday disclosed that around five million Wuhan residents had left the city before it went into lockdown last Thursday.

Worse case scenario of an outbreak.

As the high-profile coronavirus spreads, Plague Inc., a real-time strategy video game that tasks players with spreading a deadly pathogen, has seen a dramatic uptick in sales.

"Whenever there is an outbreak of disease we see an increase in players, as people seek to find out more about how diseases spread and to understand the complexities of viral outbreaks," Ndemic Creations said in a statement Thursday.

It has players pick a pathogen and strategize how to transmit it while countering actions by governments and scientists attempting to contain the global threat.

By evening, officials planned to close off Huanggang, a city of seven million about 70kmeast of Wuhan, shut rail stations in the nearby city of Ezhou, which has about one million residents, and impose travel restrictions on the smaller cities of Chibi and Xiantao as well.

The train station in Huanggang, which has a population of 7.5 million and is 70km from Wuhan - the first city that was put on lockdown - will be suspended until further notice from midnight. All vehicles will be checked, and bars and cinemas closed, said city authorities.

Hospital workers falling ill.  In the Forth Horseman...Dr Andrew tells Jenny, the staff is getting sick too.

: Canada has become one of the world’s hot spots for SARS. Concern about the unexpected number of hospital workers who contracted the disease triggered a halt to all but the most life-threatening patient care needs in many hospitals in Ontario. The manner in which this disease is transmitted is causing lab administrators in Toronto to rethink hospital infection control and microbiology activities

SARS brought an added concern. SARS patients in Hong Kong and Toronto, Canada, once hospitalized, exposed a high number of hospital staff to the disease. Hospital workers were at significant risk if proper precautions were not taken.

In Toronto, health officials were quick to recognize this danger and responded immediately. “Hospitals in Toronto are under extraordinary restrictions,” stated Ene Underwood. “For the first two weeks of the outbreak, hospitals did only ‘life-threatening’ work.

a pandemic, like climate change, doesn’t respect passports or borders.

There are other links between climate change and pandemics (and, to be clear, the current outbreak is still far from being one). The main connection is that global warming actually creates new disease vectors. As the permafrost thaws in places like Siberia, viruses that have been frozen for millennia, and against which animals and humans no longer have any resistance, will resurface

    Yes Bob ,this is scary.

A dangerous virus is spreading rapidly in China, and U.S. officials are worried it will come to America.
China has more than 200 confirmed cases of coronavirus, which produces pneumonia like symptoms.
Three people have died from the illness, which has spread to at least three other Asian countries.
Ramy Inocencio reports from Wuhan, China, considered Ground Zero for the outbreak.

This is beginning, to sound like Terry's Nations Survivors, I hope it will be controlled.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/virus-in-china-cdc-screening-passengers-at-three-u-s-airports-for-mysterious-new-virus-today-2020-01-17/ The rare pneumonia-like virus has caused at least two deaths, and has spread from China to other countries in Asia.

The additional health screenings will start at JFK on Friday night, but the CDC is also sending experts to airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco in hopes of preventing the spread of the mysterious coronavirus strain. There hasn't been a similar screening effort in the U.S. since the Ebola outbreak in 2014.

"This is a new disease and information is really rapidly evolving and we are continuing to learn about it day by day," said Dr. Nancy Messonnier of the Centers for Disease Control.

The focus will be on passengers on flights originating in Wuhan, China. So far, there have been 45 confirmed cases, and the disease has spread to Thailand and Japan, sparking a World Health Organization alert. Authorities believe it is rare for the virus to spread between humans.
