How many people were on that plane and exposed to the flu ?

The 26-year-old blamed the episode on his two-week battle with H3N2, or “Aussie flu,” – the virus that has claimed 97 lives so far in the UK alone, with more fatalities expected as the flu virus reaches its peak, the Daily Mail reported.

When Joseph was finally back in London, his symptoms got worse – sweating profusely and vomiting blood.
Joseph went to the hospital where he was told he had the “Aussie Flu.”

“It was there that I was told I had this strain [H3N2], which has been dubbed Aussie flu. I was told to just go home and rest and stay away from people,” he said.

This year’s flu season is now more intense than any since the 2009 swine flu pandemic and still getting worse, federal health officials said on Friday.

California and the West Coast have been hit hard , with four times as many people hospitalized than in 2014 - 2015.
New York and the North East are beginning to catch.

Re: Did Terry Nation know where things were heading?

It is a picture, that is getting much worse...

Then, two weeks ago, the intensity line plodded steadily beyond the 2014-2015 Christmas week peak, but the mortality line initially did not budge. But it is now shooting upward at the high trajectory angle of a North Korean rocket, has passed the peaks of the last two seasons and is on track to match or surpass 2014-2015.

But does anyone in power, really care?

Meanwhile in Scotland......

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/910991/flu-Spanish-flu-ozzy-flu-Davos-global-pandemic-international-travel

The experts said that a mutated flu virus could be the biggest threat as it can join together with other strains to become deadly.

Humanity is more vulnerable in the face of epidemics because we are much more connected and we travel around much more quickly than before.”

The experts were speaking at Davos in a discussion called ‘Are we Ready For The Next Pandemic?”

Dr Briand also said: “The flu is a respiratory virus that is easily transmitted and people can be contagious even before they show symptoms, so it is not easy to control.”

Sounds like the opening scenes in Survivors.  Aussie Flu spreads with airplane travel.
SARS, taking a 14 hour flight from China to Toronto. The plane is like an incubator.
All those hours for people to share air. You don't have to cough to spread this.

It's now 12 states.

http://www.newsweek.com/flu-season-school-districts-closed-states-788942

......that the closures—a result of "excessive absences and concerns about the [flu] virus"—have spanned about 20 districts or individual schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Apart from vaccinations, Siler offered a tip for parents and students to prevent continued outbreaks: If you're not feeling well, "Stay at home."

"Don't go to the movie theater. Don't go out shopping," she said. "Stay home until you are well."

If you're sick, even contagiously sick, you still have to come in or you can be fired for missing your shift.
Then if you cough, which you might do if you're sick, you get written up for improper food safety. So yeah, it's a no-win.

http://www.winknews.com/2018/01/10/flu-cases-cause-long-lines-waits-local-hospitals/

Some hospital patients have been waiting over six hours to be seen…all because there have been so many treated for the flu in recent weeks.

Many patients are even being treated in hallways for lack of hospital beds and space.
Pictures taken by a patient inside Gulf Coast Hospital show the demand for beds during this spike in flu season.
“There’s a lot of people there with masks. As soon as you walk in everybody in the waiting room is covered in masks or has got their shirts over their mouth,” said one patient.

There was a tv show "Ice" based on the James Follett novel. (The book had good and bad reviews on Amazon.)

"By 2020, global warming has increased significantly. Southern Europe has turned into a desert since it stopped raining, and similar events now happen in Northern Europe. Only the United Kingdom and some parts in the United States are unaffected. Furthermore, a global energy crisis exists as fossil fuels are running out."

This just in from the Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/01/06/the-crack-in-this-antarctic-ice-shelf-just-grew-by-11-miles-a-break-could-be-imminent/?utm_term=.05a27576e9da

Climate change.  Here's a movie to check out

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_(2011_miniseries)
Ice is on YouTube.

A Britsh two part miniseries ; based on a novel

By 2020, global warming has increased significantly. Southern Europe has turned into a desert since it stopped raining, and similar events now happen in Northern Europe. Only the United Kingdom and some parts in the United States are unaffected. Furthermore, a global energy crisis exists as fossil fuels are running out. The last known reserves are under seabed under Greenland's glaciers. An American energy company, Halo, has the only licence to drill in Greenland.
