Power cut

LOL where i live we have random power cuts usually during a storm that brings down the lines. However this time a plane took down a couple of miles of cable in the middle of a forest. We didn't know the cause at the time but they  announced that the power would be off for a couple of days.
I decided to go to the supermarket as my bread-maker no longer worked.  It was chaos. People actually running to buy the bottled water even though the water was still working (Gravity feed for the town) Trolleys  full of food. EFPOS and Credit cards not working so they couldn't pay for the food when they got to the counter. It was like a scene from an end of the world movie. No lights and people grabbing everything. Same for the hardware store  which I drove past. Carpark full and sold out of gas completely.
They set up free BBQ  with food to any who needed it in the city. Total time without power 33 hours . Time for panic buying 2 hours.

Re: Power cut

Yes, we may all start prepping. My friend gave me a hand cranked latern/radio.  Its set for news radio stations and emergency channels.
After a series of brown/blackouts, he gave me a Energizer LED pop up lantern. Your trip to the market sounds like quite an experience.

Can this happen?

"New York Times bestselling author William R. Forstchen tells a story that might be all too terrifyingly real. A story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war that sends our nation back to the Dark Ages.

A war lost because of a terrifying weapon, an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP).

And it may already be in the hands of our enemies.

Months before publication, One Second After was already cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read. It has been discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a realistic look at EMPs and their awesome ability to send catastrophic shockwaves throughout the United States, literally within seconds.
It is a weapon that The Wall Street Journal warned could shatter our nation.
In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail-Safe, and Testament , this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future . . ."
